Boston Terriers - How to raise a Healthy Dog?

Boston Terriers are generally robust dogs. Future owners do not have to worry about their dog's health since the majority of Boston Terriers that come from responsible breeders. They are supplied with all the necessary care and do not experience health disorders too frequently. However, anyone involved in the breed should be aware of the health problems to which the Boston Terrier is susceptible.

The Boston Terrier is prone to eye problems, allergies, seizures, and other disorders. They have a short muzzle, the reminder of their close relations with the English Bulldog. They often have breathing difficulties and, therefore, should not be exposed to high temperatures. Boston Terriers deprived of fresh water and a shade in a hot weather can suffer from a heatstroke.

Breed owners should take care of proper nutrition. Boston Terriers do not have special requirements as regards to the diet. They do not need a lot of food. Yet, the breed tends to be greedy and will never reject an additional meal. Hence, Boston Terrier owners often supply the dog with too much food assuming that it is hungry. Boston Terriers are known to suffer from deafness. Therefore, it is important to buy puppies from certified breeding stock. The breeding stock should be tested for this hereditary condition.
